My team uses water on grips too, and actually we spray some water on the bars too.
Tips for breaking in grips: chalk up real good, then fix the grip you get on the low bar first, so that you have a good grip, then do some small then bigger swings on the low bar, then on to more swings on the high bar, small swings first to get the grips formed well to the bars and your hands, then bigger ones as the grips form gets good.
