it's probably to make sure they will be comfortable competing in just a leotard....they could have just a mock meet for that though. guess they want to really make sure.

I never take my shorts off at practice and they dont help me at all with the bruises but w/e :? I think it looks better at competition without shorts...more professional or something...unless your butt is hangin out lol!

most of the girls at my gym wear shorts during practice too, and the boys too lol :D it helps with preventing ripping on your hips on bars, esp. when you're on it for like an hour. you can always use that sticky spray to keep the leotard from moving up...just watched the "Stick It" movie, and they were spraying and spraying that!

I don't use it, but I saw it in gym supply mag. It's actaully to keep tape/wrap from falling off! lol

the tight velvet bike shorts like gk sells are good for bars workout. anything looser is annoying - the air goes thru them and then u lose speed. and the fabric shorts that aren't velvet will rip easily on the bars too! i haven't used the sticky stuff. :D

tight shorts, like bike shorts / the ones gk sell, are really good and should be allowed - they are not in the way, have positive benefits, and they do not constrict the judges views of the gymnast 'lines' as they say!
