My favorite ice dance pair is Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto. They came in 4th after the compulsories, but they are still in medal contention, as compulsories count for 25% of the score - 2 more dances to go. It's weird how the compulsory tango dance music ends - or doesn't end - with the dance...it's not 'tailored'.

Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the first gold medal in ice dancing for Canada, it was clear how happy they were during the medals ceremony! The Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White won the silver, the same medal Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto won in the 2006 Games (here they came in 4th). Belbin and Agosto might be retiring...according to their tweets it might have been their last competitive dance, and they are happy about their dance/competition as they did dance their best, with no mistakes, and brought their practice over to the ice. And the Russians Oksana Domina and Maxim Shabalin won the bronze. Their costumes had rope wrap around to aid them in the lifts...something that is probably going to go in the rule books as not allowed after this! I get the controversy on the Russians having ropes on their costumes and using them to aid them in lifting - that will probably be banned quick this year - it's like having a harness...but I don't get the controversy on their free dance costume: [QUOTE] Some Australian aboriginal leaders have claimed Domnina and Shabalin's original dance is offensive cultural theft, with inauthentic steps and gaudy costumes. The music includes a didgeridoo riff, and Domnina and Shabalin wear brown-toned costumes adorned with leaves and white Aboriginal-style markings. In the original dance, couples can create any kind of dance that falls within an assigned theme. This year's theme is country-folk, and skaters are doing routines to everything from Indian music to country-western to a Japanese fan dance. "Two years ago, when we had the folk dance, 70 percent did it to Russian or Ukrainian music. It was like a competition of Russian dance or Ukrainian dance," Shabalin said. "We thought (the Aboriginal theme) would be interesting, and we like this. We like the way they dance, and their costumes."
