Pulled hamstrings/muscle - how long until heals?!
I pulled my hamstrings in one of my legs when I was doing the other leg splits. I didn't feel anything bad when I was doing them, but then it just happened and I noticed it when I was doing the pike stretch with the same leg stretching (one leg straight, one leg bent pike stretch). I probably should have warmed up a little more that day before going into the split! The other day I got a pop in the leg when in that leg split, but it didn't get hurt. It's getting colder so it could mean better to warm up more. Anyways, anyone had this and how long does it take to heal? It's on my other leg split so it doesn't affect my tumbling, just I'm skipping the toe shoot on bars until it gets better and doing just gentle stretching on pike and that leg split. Anyone else get pulled hamstrings from stretching or something else?

One of my friends on the team pulled her leg like that because her coach was stretching her the kneeling down way, where the coach stands behind you and pulls one leg up - she pulled too hard and her leg popped and she pulled something in her leg. It took like 1-2 months to be totally the same, and do all the skills she wanted including the piking skills like toe shoot, toe-on free-hip, etc. But yours could heal up fast, like even in a few days, it just might be a like tight-soar-hurt thing. The back of her upper leg would hurt even from sitting down.

It depends how bad it is. Does it hurt when you are walking? How about at other times when you are just sitting or standing or squeezing your muscles? If it does you probably have a small tear in your hamstring, if you do it could turn into a big tear which could mean you wont be able to train for several months and even will not be able to walk at first. Definatly see a physio if this is the case, they can do everysizes to speed up the recovery and tell you how much damage there is and what things it is safe for you to do. This is the best way because it may mean a few weeks of skipping some skills in training as oppssed to a few months of no training at all. If you only feel pain when you strech it fairly hard then it is probably not too much of a big deal. For about 1-2 weeks don't do anything that causes pain, just stick to the other stuff and it will be fine. If it is in between those two extremes. Like you don't feel pain when you are walking but you do if say you kick up to handstand on that leg then it is probably just a very very small tear. Good idea to see a physio anyway just to be sure you are not doing anything to make it worse and to get some exersizes to do that will heal it up quicker.

Thanks for the messages! I skipped the pikey skills like toe shoot, toe-on, etc. and it's on the other split that I use for tumbling and stuff so it got a good rest! I think it might have been too overstressed! And tight. It's getting better! It would hurt sometimes when I would walk, but then loosen out and feel better, so I don't think it's a tear. Ice/heat/vicks/massage works well! raelyn: ouch! that must have hurt - that coach should be more careful.
