YMCA - aiming high
"World-class gymnast to visit Sheboygan" - http://www.sheboygan-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070315/SHE02/703150571 Sheboygan's youth gymnasts are already excited about hosting the 2008 Sheboygan YMCA national championships.
Now, there is further reason to be pumped about the event. The YMCA announced recently that Chellsie Memmel, a West Allis native and one of the top gymnasts in the world, will speak at the opening ceremony for the event, set for June of 2008. "We're very excited that this worked out," said Sheboygan YMCA gymnastics coordinator Denice Nugent. "This represents the caliber we're aiming for, in all areas of this meet."
That should be really good for YMCA sports.

here's an article on a level 3 gymnast competing at a state meet for Mississippi: "Demopolis first grader wins top award" - http://www.demopolistimes.com/articles/2007/03/20/sports/sports9960.txt so, I guess it is up to the club if they want to be competitive like that at the lower levels, or start from level 5. that gym is Meridian Gymnastics in Meridian, Mississippi; according to the article, for level 3 to qualify to state you just have to get 30 points overall. my club aims for more the higher level competitions - competitions do take time out of learning new cool harder skills, so we pick and choose and plan out the competitions schedule like that.

my club added level 4 to the competition schedule last year - guess there was a demand for it - though you can skip level 4 competition and go compete level 5
