Different competition hair/make-up/glitter/hair spray styles
I like the natural, no hair spray, colorful hair clips style, with hair braided / pony tail style. In the club gymnastics a lot of the girls use hair spray though - tons of it!! - for practice too - and since like last year so much make up too. Here's an interesting article from the 2006 NCAA college gymnastics: "Competing in style" - http://www.gazettetimes.com/articles/2006/04/21/news/top_story/fri01.txt It goes through the different general styles of some of the colleges. Different from her OSU teammates:
Yuki Lamb, a sophomore business administration major, doesn

also, really tight hair styles aren't good either - better to keep the hair back with clips than to pull it hard:
Wearing tight braids, ponytails or buns causes baldness. TRUE: Traction alopecia is a very real hair loss condition that is quite common amongst older African American women. It results from wearing tight ponytails, cornrows or buns over an extended period of time. Over time, hair breakage or loss as the result of tight, stressed styles, can become permanent. Avoid this potential problem by opting for looser styles that minimize scalp tension.
from: http://health.learninginfo.org/hair-care/myths.htm there's some interesting hair myths on there, some that are true, some that are false. some interesting ones: brushing your hair 100 times a day isn't good (so Brady Bunch Marsha and Jan hair brushing was wrong!) and smoking can cause grey hair and hair loss.

Does anyone have any pictures of the "spiderweb" hairstyle? It's hard to describe but it uses a lot of elastic bands on the top of the head. It looks really pretty, but at the same time seems to do a great job of keeping long hair out of the way. I can't find any pictures to go by, so if anyone knows what I am talking about and could post one, I'd really appreciate it!

glitter is pretty, but i don't wear it during competitions - i keep it sporty! lol, the glitter would be another thing to think about going into your eyes, like the chalk you know. :D gymmom02: are you talking about this hair style, they call it spider web on the website: http://cfiks.org/v-web/gallery/Ghana-Women-s-Hairstyles/spider_s_web

cool idea on posting new different hair styles! i don't get the wearing eye liner and mascara to gym practice and at competitions - gymnastics is a sport - doesn't it smear off? - or you have to be really careful about it at least - better to think more on the sport of it than like it's a dance or fashion show or something like that like why do we have to use tan tape at competitions - in diving they don't judge on how you tape or which color it is. it's just kind of like gymnastics needs to catch up a bit to the more liberal side of things.
