2012 London Olympics: Stay with your club, or switch to get to Olympics/gold
Gymnast Gabby Douglas opted to switch gyms to Chow's gymnastics (Shawn Johnson's coach/club - put it on the map) to make it on the U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics team, noting that she felt she "needed better coaching" to make it to the Olympics. Swimmer Missy Franklin opted to stay with her lontime coach and club in Colorado, even though lots of people were telling her to move to Californiia or Florida, one of the "swimming" states. Missy won the 100 meter backstroke yesterday, and Gabby made it to the women's all-around final and won team gold.

And Michael Phelps has been training with his coach for 16 years. Not sure which club Gabby switched from when she was 14, to go to Chow's Gymnastics club, but gymnastics coaching quality is very important not just for advancement of skills, but safety. As is the gymnastics equipment - pits for safe landing of hard skills as you learn them, a good spot, coaches teaching correct technique and steps/progressions to learn it, and lots of mats, that are not hollowed out.
