Dancing With The Stars Jennifer Grey & Derek Hough on top week 4, score first 10's
Movie star Jennifer Grey and star choreographer Derek Hough wow the judges and audience with an awesome Argentine Tango on "Dancing With The Stars" week 4 Monday night, earning the first 10's of the season. The judges described their dance performance as "prime time delight" (Bruno, of course), incredible and amazing, with musicality (Carrie Ann's favorite word?!). Tonight's scoring was one set of scores for the technique and another set for the performance - and also a smaller circle set, intimate with matching music. Jennifer and Derek actually incorporated the piano in the beginning of their dance, each playing a few notes on the piano next to the piano player, choreographed with the dance, and then a few moments later Jennifer's legs played a few notes in the air bicycling with Derek lifting her up. Jennifer and Derek scored all 9's for technique, and 10/9/10 for performance, totaling 56/60. Still seems like the judges are holding back on their scores, because she has some dance experience? The Brady Bunch's Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas wow the audience in their own way, and "wraunchiness" as Len would put it. The judges were a bit speechless. Florence and Corky had an interesting video promo, joking about what is "appropriate" and "not appropriate" with the help of Corky's son Mark and Florence's daughter. A good snapshot of Florence's and Cork's dance. On the bottom of the scoreboard is once again Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Karina Smirnoff, with 28 points. They put in a ton of lifts (allowed in this week's competition) to make use of The Situation's "situation" - i.e. 6-pack (or 8-pack?) abs and strength. Karina was in one piece at the end like she knew she would be because 'he would hurt himself before letting [her] get hurt" as Karina puts it. Sloppy dance, but entertaining. Mike was actually on ABC's "Nightline" tonight. For those not watching his show "Jersey Shore" viewers got a different side of him with a short clip of him hitting a girl in the mouth...not the same image he is putting out there on DWTS. Mike did say on "Nightline" that he was upset with the producers for showing a bad image of him on "Jersey Shore" for the first time and that he is thinking of leaving the show. Perhaps he was expecting that not to be in the final cut that is aired to millions, and on DWTS he doesn't expect cuts on his behalf? Mike's answer to those who say he's stupid is that he's a businessman with millions - endorsements, product line, iphone app...he wants to go into acting. What happened to don't hit a girl? No hitting or slapping from pro dancer Maks Chmerkovskiy this week, but there's no suprise that Brandy appears to have become cured of that first meeting crush she had for Maks. The intro video showed Brandy finding a hard time acting like she was in love for her romantic dance with Maks. To get her in the mood, Maks takes her out to dinner after practice and says here are the chocolates, flowers, ...on the table. Brandy corrects him on the proper way to give flowers to a girl, rather than just saying here they are on the table like matter of fact. The dance on competition night turns out good, surprisingly as judge Carrie Ann points out. Maks looks like he is bored in many of video shots during the show tonight. Not the spunkiness he had with partner Spice Girl. Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke also took advantage of the lifting ok rule this week. They kind of looked like a pair skating team with their height difference and Cheryl being in the air half the time. Bristol Palin's dance with Mark Ballas was ok technically but needs more umph, more passion - more of what Disney's Kyle Massey has when dancing with Lacey Schwimmer. Bristol lifts up and takes off Mark's shirt during the routine - a dancing distraction Len does not like, and Carrie Ann says 'nice body'. Host Tom Bergeron suggests Len to go shirtless for his Halloween costume for the upcoming episode that week. Sarah Palin was also shown in the audience this week again, with her other younger daughter, booing the comments that Bristol is "vacant" and needs to put more passion in her dancing. Looked like a better move on tv. Kyle's technique improved this week (no "atrocious" footwork comment by Len anymore), but the judges criticized his way of flowing in the dance and then having sharp movements. Not consistent. It was entertaining though. He is an actor. And energetic. Lacey's ballerina dance outfit looked a bit too lacey on top with all the camera lights on tv. Don't get why they go with the tanned skin color fabric in that pattern. Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya bring in Kurt's wife and Anna's wife for approval of their romantic dance. They get the thumbs up. They do a nice dance, improved a lot. The men in this season's show seem to be rotating the open bow tie look - this week it's Kurt's turn. The Hills' Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani have some nice lifts and upside down back bend move. You can tell Tony has a different teaching style with Audrina than with his other DWTS partners. He is doing a good job with matching it to her. They skip the frowning mad face to get the mood of the dance across because 'it causes wrinkles' as Audrina points out. Go girl! Audrina just needs to attack her dances a little bit more like she did in the first show of this season, where she did have 2 weeks to practice versus a few days in each of the weeks competition after that. But she can do it.
