Asiad Games next month, China's sweeps and Beijing 2008!
The Chinese Gymnastics Association is sending their Aarhus World Gymnastics Championships teams to the Asiad Games in Doha that are next month, except that Han Bin will replace Li Ya on the women's team. Li Ya didn't make finals on bars which is her specialty and wasn't in the team finals either. Teams: Men's: Yang Wei, Xiao Qin, Liang Fuliang, Feng Jing, Chen Yibing, Zoukai, Dong Zhendong (Substitute); Women's: Zhang Nan, Cheng Fei, Pang Panpan, Zhou Zhuoru, He Ning, Han Bin, Fan Ye (Substitute) Article: "World champion teams for Asiad gymnastics" - http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2006-11/08/content_727410.htm Article: "Gym coach Huang expects tougher challenge in 2008" - http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2006-10/25/content_716285.htm
Huang contributed the success to their correct understanding of the new rules, which was first introduced into a world championships in Arhus. "I think we enjoy the temporary leading position because we studied the new judging system maybe earlier than the other teams and therefore understand it better. "But after the championships, they would learn more about the rules and train better. I believe they would catch up soon." Huang said.
In Aarhus the Chinese teams won 8 out of 14 gold medals and the 1st ever women's team world title in the 53-year history of Chinese gymnastics. The Chinese teams had injuries too, like in the USA, and other gymnasts came into the team...like for Huang Xu, double Olympic Champion Li Xiapeng and Athens Olympic Champion Teng Haibin.
