Former California star Dana Vollmer won a silver medal after leading off the United States' 4x200-meter freestyle relay on Thursday night, July 30, at the 2009 FINA Swimming World Championships in the Stadia del Nuoto. The U.S. relay posted an American-record time of 7:42.56 to finish behind China's gold-medal and world-record time of 7:42.08. In her lead-off leg, Vollmer tied the 200-free personal record of 1:55.29 that she set on July 28 and gave her team a slight lead over the Chinese. This is the second medal of the World Championships for Vollmer, who won a bronze in the 200-free final yesterday.
