Former California All-American William Copeland set a meet record by winning the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 41.75 at the 2008 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming Short Course National Championship on Saturday in Atlanta. Copeland topped a strong field that included 2008 U.S. Olympic gold medalist Matt Grevers, who was second in 41.85, 2008 Australian Olympic bronze medalist Matt Targett, who was third in 41.93, and 2008 U.S. Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte, who was fourth in 41.99.
