A lot of the players in the penalty area were "holding, grabbing, pulling or pushing as the U.S. free kick sailed in to the 18-yard zone" as the article says. Mali Referee Koman Coulibaly's call for Bocanegra's wrestling ring around Nejc Pecnik uncounted USA's Maurice Edu goal that would have broken the 2-2 tie between USA and Slovenia. Like the article said, Bocanegra was preventing Edu from jumping the ball, so anyways the goal should be uncounted right? But the same thing was happening to the American players by the Slovenian players too, with no call. Instant replay necessary like American football or baseball..or another option is to make it legal - then the sport will be more American football or rugby. Or ice hockey. Best option perhaps is to have the extra referee assistants to police the penalty area like they have in some European soccer games, as approved by FIFA.
