West Ham United got exactly what they needed Saturday, as the East London outfit produced an excellent away performance for a comfortable 3-1 victory over Southampton at St. Mary's. After winning two straight Premier League fixtures, West Ham (9-4-11) were knocked back to earth in midweek with a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City. Southampton (7-6-11) came into the match having lost five of their last six league contests, but the hosts started brightly as new man Manolo Gabbiadini got in behind the left flank and ripped a near post strike into the top left corner on 12 minutes.
