Franz Beckenbauer says he offered to explain corruption allegations in connection with the 2006 World Cup but never got a reply from the two top officials of the German football federation. Beckenbauer tells the Sueddeutsche newspaper he sent a confidential letter to acting federation presidents Reinhard Rauball and Rainer Koch offering to answer all questions ''to the best of my knowledge and conscience,'' but that they never bothered to answer. Beckenbauer was the president of the 2006 World Cup organizing committee and signed a document promising then FIFA vice-president Jack Warner various services.
