Our optionals meet season starts around December!
It will be easier to be more confident in your back handspring on beam if you take it by steps:
-first backhandspring on floor on a line, with hands close like you would do it on beam - I like to use the technique one hand in front of the other, but I think some people do it hands next to each other like back walkover, but maybe when they are more little and have smaller hands! If you have those line strips that you can put it on the floor and do the backhandsprings on it that would be good.
-then on the floor beam if you have one at your gym
-then on the low beam
-and then later on the high beam
Try doing these steps, first with spot, then without, then when you get it good by yourself, move to the next step.
If you already have these steps and are on the low or high beam level, to warm-up also, you might want to do it on the floor first, then low beam, then high beam, just to warm up to get more confident also.
When you do the back handspring on the low beam and high beam, you can stack up mats under it and slowly take them away. Also, you might want to try using one of those small thin sting-like mats over the beam to help with your landing, and then later do it without.
When you go for the skill, go for it!
