Do you bounce your splits? DON'T DO IT!!
Hey, I already had guessed before that bouncing up in down when in the splits is not good, I had a school p.e. project and came across this: From: http://www.ultimatehandbook.com/Webpages/Health/stretchwarm.html - Health & Fitness - Stretching - Warming Up "Do not bounce! — Bouncing can cause microtrauma in the muscle, which must heal itself with scar tissue. The scar tissue tightens the muscle, making you less flexible — and more prone to pain."

Up until last year, our coach said it would be good, like it would be "active" flexibility / warming up, and then later he told us not to do it...must have heard that it was bad at Congress or something!

Ya, bouncing your splits is bad, apparently 'vibrating' your splits is good, and is the Russian technique.

I think Flor is referring to when the coach actually sits on the gymnast, and then maybe some of them bounce like that - not good! I don't think that stretching practice of the coach sitting on the gymnast is good at all, for lots of reasons. Other ways are better and good, like stretching from leg kicks and then pulling one leg up, stretching splits from the gymnast kneeling and one leg pulled up, or stretching splits when lying down - just as long as the limits aren't pushed too far to cause damage rather than good - like pulled tendons!
