Chrystal Lim Wen Chean was leading until the third apparatus but when Thai gymnast Tharatip Sridee performed her last exercise, she was awarded the highest score to beat the Malaysian by one point. Chrystal took silver and defending champion Foong Seow Ting was awarded bronze. Malaysia's Uzbek coach Elena Kholodova could not hold back her tears as she hugged her gymnasts.
Reason for unfair scoring according to Malaysia's team manager:
Team manager I. Paramaspathy claimed the Thais desperately wanted to win the gold because their Sports Minister was in the stadium watching the action. "They did not want to disappoint the minister so they manipulated the points."
So, going to the videos...
"We are submitting a formal request for video to be present to be used as evidence if there are discrepancies."

"This is utter rubbish. This will not only demoralise the gymnasts but also affect the sport in the process." Paramaspathy said Malaysia had already requested for video recording from the first day of the artistic gymnastics competition. "But the organisers said they only had three videos but five apparatus. But rhythmic gymnastic is performed in the centre and using three videos should not be a problem," she added.
Even with a new scoring system, there still is controversy, but with the help of video and the outline of the scoring it should be easier to figure out than with the 10 point scale that is more open.
