picking floor routine music and choreography

More info. on how gymnasts pick their floor routines!! ->
It'll be something they hear over and over again when performing two routines a day.
yup! over and over again! the compulsory levels music is much worse in that you listen to it even more over and over again, as the whole team does the same routine to the same music.
"If you're powerful, you're probably going to lean toward a music with strong and dynamic beats," Butler's teammate, Tappan Zee sophomore Candace Young, said. "But if your strength is your dance, you'll want to choose music that you will be able to show off your dance to. "You also have to make sure you really enjoy the music you choose, and that it's one you feel you will be able to perform your routine to."
'Former Lakeland/Panas standout and current University of Maryland freshman Rachel Zamora':
"For me, I definitely like the upbeat music because not only does it keep me pumped up during my floor routine, but it entices the crowd and judges," Zamora said. "Its important that the judges get into your routine as well."
The process:
The process for choosing the floor music begins with listening to several hours' worth of 1-minute, 30-second cuts. "You're given a stack of demos to listen to," Lakeland/Panas freshman Emily McKiernan said. "You listen to all of them and pick the ones you like." At Galaxy Gymnastics in Orangeburg, many of the gymnasts searched through movie soundtracks to get their music for this season. Butler's is from "The Mask of Zorro." Tappan Zee seventh-grader Alix Fischer employs "Big Spender" from "Fosse." Nanuet's Taylor Redmond uses the ending from "Star Wars Episode IV." When deciding which music to choose, Tappan Zee sophomore Jillian Hudson goes to her coach, Jamie Winkler, who also choreographs all the routines for the Galaxy girls. "Usually to choose my floor music, Jamie helps me out and gives me ideas to think about and picks out some choices," Hudson said. "I then let her know which one I like the best." Zamora, who competes at the club level at Maryland, has kept her music from her days at Dynamic Gymnastics in Mohegan Lake, where coaches Teodora Ungureanu and Sorin Cepoi knew her well. When a gymnast goes through the music, she has a set idea in mind of what she wants. "When I look through music, I'm looking for something that is not the same as others," Mahopac senior Kylie Shields said. "I also want a change in music. I like to have a point in the music where it slows down so that I can catch my breath."

Competing gymnasts might have the same cut of music, but it is rare for two gymnasts from the same team to perform to the same cut of music. Lakeland/Panas senior Elizabeth McKiernan is currently using the same piece of music Zamora used last season. "I fell in love with the piece," McKiernan said. "After about three weeks, we finally realized that not only did we have the same cut, but the same choreography."
Not good to have the same routine! Music is one thing lol, but the same routine?! lol A good routine:
"I think the music is great because it's a song that most people know," said Young, a teammate of Straub's at Galaxy. "The music also has slow sections so that she can catch her breath and really show off her dance, but yet it also speeds up to get her going for her next tumbling pass. The choreography for the music hits the beats so well. I love it."
Related thread: "Who's making your floor routine": http://www.gymchat.com/messageboards/viewtopic.php?t=32
