soft landings impt, 8 inchers, sting mats, pits, tumble trak
Soft landings are important for preventing injuries and overuse injuries, in learning new skills and practicing skills. This means a good bouncy springy floor isn't just to get higher air and get to the the extra twist or extra rotation, but it is also about absorbing the impact of your landing. 8 inchers, 4 inchers, and sting mats on the floor, the mats under the bars, the pit, mats in the pit for floor-level landings, and tumble trak are important. Equipment does count for a lot, as does experienced coaching, especially coaches that have the background in physical education, on the physical body, and injuries, how the body works, rather than in business. A 1993 5-year study on college gymnasts showed more stresses on the body during competition season:
The analyses showed that gymnasts trained with an injury approximately 71% of the exposures, and a new injury could be expected from a gymnast during approximately 9% of the exposures. The largest number of injuries were of the repetitive stress syndrome type. The time series information showed that total injuries tended to increase until the middle of the competitive season, while new injuries showed prominent increases during specific training periods and during competition preparation and performance.
"Women's gymnastics injuries.
