Gymnasts coached by their parents
Seems like more and more gymnasts are getting coached by their parents! Don't you think? Like in the Visa Championships, Nastia Liukin gets coached by her dad at WOGA, Jana Bieger has been getting coached by her mom, Chellsie Memmel asked her dad recently to coach her. Same as for Alexander Artemev and Yewki Tomita. All national athletes. Chellsie Memmel and her dad Andy seem to have the best parent coaching balance relationship, from the videos of the Nationals. John Roethlisberger was coached by his dad too! Found this article from IG: http://www.insidegymnastics.com/news/article.asp?article=opinionline_roeth regarding the Parent/Coach Combo.

John Roethlisberger has been competing for a long time...and his work now is in gymnastics too...no burn out there! And he was coached by his dad some too, that's interesting. Ya, they talked about him being coached by his dad sometimes during the televised competitions.

Here's an article with Jana Bieger's opinion on how it is like to be coached by her mom: "Bieger brings experience to Worlds" - http://www.wcsn.com/article/news.jsp?ymd=20061010&content_id=8294&vkey=gymnastics_news&id=34012&dpre= "It's great having your parent coach you," Bieger said. "They know you the best. Especially if you are coached by a parent who has experienced the sport. They have been through it and they know how to handle it. From injuries to getting ready for competitions."

New article on Nastia Luikin at the World Championships: http://au.sports.yahoo.com/061016/3/xltq.html
Liukin has also believes she could not have achieved so much success if it had not been for her father's training instincts. "Being coached by my father is the best situation possible for me. He knows me personally better then anyone will ever know me," explained Liukin. "He knows which skills are best for me. Sometimes, it does get a little tough, because we are both such perfectionists. And when things don't go how we want them to, we both get a little frustrated. "At the gym he is only my coach and when we step out of the gym, he is my father. But without him, I wouldn't be where I am today."
