How to choose gymnastics grips & tips
There are lots of choices for gymnastics grips: Brand: It is not just about the different color straps or the different brand name... Different brands have different grips widths, different leather thickness of the grips, different thickness/widths of the velcro straps that close them, different thickness/widths of the buckle straps that close them and the number of buckles. You do want to make sure the velcro is strong and good quality, to avoid problems with the velcro coming undone during your bars routine. As they do get older, after months, you may choose to tape them down or use rubber bands...I personally say tape them down or better yet if you can and the velcro straps are bad and not secure, get new grips. Rubber bands snapping, yikes. See below for the link to the discussion on velcro vs buckles grips. Most grips don't have an inner foam inside on the wrist area, some do (like Baile grips). The inner foam on the wrist area is added protection for your wrist besides wearing neoprene or terry wristbands - see below for the link to the discussion on these two different bar grips wristbands. But an inner foam for your grips could also be too much thickness there at your wrist, making it uncomfortable and also add to the grips shifting to the sides when you use them, and not have a close fit to your wrist like you would with grips without the extra foam there. Some also actually sell in the inner foam as an insert that you can add - or take off. Also, another difference can be on the grip holes - some brands keep the hole flaps on the grips, some like 10-0 grips don't have the flap - one plus for the flaps is if your fingers are thin, the flap does help a bit in keeping your grips on, besides taping the grip to make the holes smaller, or using rubber bands...see below for the topic link on this. Anyways, if the finger holes are too small for you, you can use the leather strip most grips come with to sand the leather bigger - make sure to test it continuously on your fingers as you do this so they don't turn out too big for you!
