Gymnastics topic on Jeopardy tv show today!
I was flipping through the channels on tv today and on the Jeopardy tv game shoe they were doing gymnastics topics! :D Rope used to be a gymnastics Olympic sport and gymnastics with a ribbon is rhythmic gymnastics. We would have rocked that category lol. :D More of The Rope Climb Competitive Rope Climbing The Last Traditional Gymnastic Climbing Event ->
Climbers ascended a 1.5 " diameter natural fiber rope, starting in a seated position on the floor with legs outstretched - the rope lying on the floor between them. The length of the rope varied - in Olympic competition it was 8 meters long except when the Games were held in the USA: then a 25 foot (7.62 meters) rope was used. In America the AAU and NCAA apparently sanctioned competition on both a 20 foot and a 25 foot rope. The climber leaned back and executed an explosive pull and surge upward, kicking the legs as he strode up the rope, using hands only. You were allowed to kick your legs - a smooth but energetic "stride" - but could not use legs or feet on the rope or to push off the floor. The first move gave the momentum for the rest of the climb. Coming down - not part of the contest - was hand-overhand. The climber never used feet or legs on the rope. That is totally an easy category for gymnasts! :D Also, flying rings before: Former apparatus & events
Rope Climb Further information: Rope climbing Generally, competitors climbed either a 6m (6.1m = 20 ft in USA) or an 8m (7.6m = 25 ft in USA), 38mm (1.5") diameter natural fiber rope for speed, starting from a seated position on the floor and using only the hands and arms. Kicking the legs in a kind of "stride" was normally permitted. Flying Rings Further information: Flying Rings Flying Rings was an event similar to Still Rings, but with the performer swinging back and forth while executing a series of stunts. It was a gymnastic event sanctioned by both the NCAA and the AAU until the early 1960s.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnastics Fun! Now they have to try to keep the rings still on their moves...on the still rings. Except on the giants move, but that's more like up/down, not back and forth like the flying rings.
