Women's gymnastics: Daria Joura leads for the Australian team: [quote]Joura, who finished fifth all-around at the 2006 World Championships, was the stand-out female. Her 60.200 total included three 15-plus scores: 15.175 on balance beam, 15.100 on floor exercise and 15.075 on vault. She was one of only three gymnasts who achieved a 15-plus score. [/quote] Australian national team coach Peggy Liddick (Shannon Miller's old coach in USA with Steve Nunno) says: [quote]"Daria stood up and impressed in a leadership role," Liddick said. "Champions have a way of raising the standard." [/quote] Liddick brought the USA hair styles and leo styles she did in the USA to the Australian team. Her teammate Hollie Dykes (she got 7th all-around at 2006 Worlds) - did late withdrawal from the competition because of a minor back injury Australia wins over Japan: 232.925 to 227.200 Men's gymnastics: Japan wins over Australia in even a bigger margin: 438.900 to 419.900. Japan got top 5 all-around scores.
