Seattle Sounders midfielder and U.S. national team captain Clint Dempsey has been suspended for two games by Major League Soccer for violent conduct toward Toronto FC defender Mark Bloom in last week's match. MLS announced the suspension on Friday. The MLS players union appealed, but the suspension was upheld. Chicago defender Lovel Palmer was also suspended two games for violent conduct toward Portland's Maximiliano Urruti.
