This gym is family owned and has been in the Farminton Valley for many years. They cater mostly to Simsbury, Farmington, Avon & West Hartford families who are not looking for an intense strict environment for gymnasts, more low key - and are able to pay the over-priced tuition and other high cost services, such as $150 choreographed optional routines, usually a 15 minute private with the Girl's Team coach/director (daughter of owner.) And non-intese is exactly what you get. Very laid back, unstructured practices, coaching is practically non-existent. The girls usually work on their own & learn compulsory routines by watching other team mates. Their inability to train gymnasts correctly shows in very sloppy routines, which may not appear to be as such to parents not exposed to genuine gymnastics training and performance. This is more of a business than anything. They demand final months payment in advance, non-refundable; very high priced comp. leos/warm-ups & gym bags, not personalized either. Gyms routinely personalize warm-ups & bags. They are not likely to lose business as the families that bring thier kids here are quite prominent and the location is absolutely prime and ideal for them. I can name many other gyms in Connecticut & Massachusetts with excellent training programs, definately not as "recreational" as GTC, but they do what they are being paid for - Train & Coach! In any case, I suggest you take this information seriously when considering a gym, getting real training vs. not, and the fact that you'll be paying a tremendous amount of money to them for a "business. There is no "family-like" relationships with gymnasts & their families - it's a very cold environment. Before committing - go and watch some team practices a couple times & do the same at other CT gyms, see the difference, and make your decision from there. In this economy I don't think anyone is able to throw money away. And if your gymnast really wants a future in gymnastics, this is not the place to be!

Hello Parents I don't normally add reviews and posts, but when I came across this first review I decided (after I finished laughing) to add my two cents. We all know there are those parents whose kids are "the best" and who could be in the olympics one day. The parents who push and control their kids and never stop to think if it is what the child wants. It sounds to me like the parent above has some issues she needs to workout. My daughter did gymnastics at GTC until she was in high school and she is now a mother herself and brings her son to GTC. If you have never been into the gym, swing by and take a look around, the coaches (some of whom have coached there for 15+ years) are friendly and kind, they think that there is a place for everyone in the sport, they think schoolwork, social lives, and other sports are important. They help shape well-rounded athletes who will succeed in life in and outside of the gym. The first review is obviously an angry parent who needs to focus on things that are actually important in life...family, friends, and happiness.
