Mark Cavendish won the final stage of the Tour of California in a sprint finish, and Julian Alaphilippe finished safely in the field to capture the overall title Sunday. The breakaway had 35 seconds on the flat, fast stage with about 2 miles left on the 86-mile route, but it was caught by a main field powered by Peter Sagan's Tinkoff team and Alexander Kristoff's Katusha squad. Cavendish, who excels on flat finishes, was able to outsprint both powerhouses to win his first stage in this year's race and the 10th of his career in California.
