Seow Ting training under new coach
"AFTER five years under Russian coach Marina Axenenko, rhythmic gymnast Foong Seow Ting has a new coach to prepare her for the Asian Games on Dec 1-15." - http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/nst/Sunday/Sport/20061022084203/Article/index_html She's training with Uzbek Elena Kolodova, for a month now. She also coaches her teammate Chrystal Lim. Durratun Nashihin Rosli is also on the team, but she might not be competing in Doha as she's following a second shoulder injury.
Under Marina, Seow Ting (picture) became an overnight sensation when she clinched four gold medals at the Manila Sea Games last year. With Elena, who has been with the national squad since 2001, Seow Ting aims to be a notch above the rest, and her teammates will have to work doubly hard to stay on par with her as she enjoys fulltime training. Unlike Durratun and Chrystal, who are juggling between their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and the Asian Games, Seow Ting planned well ahead by clearing her SPM last year. Both Durratun and Chrystal deferred their SPM last year for the Sea Games, but Seow Ting took the double stress in her stride, returning with the biggest individual gold medal haul for Malaysia. "I felt it was time for me to move on. I want to learn new techniques with Elena, but I will not forget what Marina has done for me. "I am doing well under Elena and my preparations for the Games are going good," said Seow Ting. At the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Portimao, Portugal, last month, Seow Ting achieved a first when she broke the 14-point mark in almost all her apparatus events. She finished 17th among 29 gymnasts. "The results have given me hope that I am on the right track for Doha, and I am grateful to Marina who helped me achieve it," she said.
